Bonding Doors Without Rivets - Fredy Irizarry - 08-19-2026 Disclaimer: This is what *I did*. You do your EXPERIMENTAL aircraft as you see fit, and assume the responsibility of what you do and how you do it. I decided to use Sikaflex (Sika Aktivator 100, Sika Primer 209-D Black and Sikaflex-295 UV) for the doors rather than rivets. I made a jig to hold the shape of the fiberglass stiffener out of wood. So far no rivets. I'll use 6-32 screws and t nuts for the stall strip to avoid pull rivet action. Here are some pictures of the process and the door installed. Others indicated they have used Panel Bonding Adhesive MB-835 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
RE: Bonding Doors Without Rivets - Sam Oliver - 08-19-2026 Hey Fredy! Welcome to the Forum! Looks like things are moving along nicely with your project. Your jig and adhesive instead of pop rivets looks very clean. I like it. I'm gonna have to take a drive down sometime and see how it's coming along. Sam |
