Dynamic Rollover - Jared Hartzell - 12-22-2025

I'm sure many have seen this video as it's one of the most popular related to rotorway accidents on YouTube. Feel free to discuss what went wrong!

RE: Dynamic Rollover - Orv Neisingh - 01-12-2026

That accident is certainly a classic! You can hear the rotor RPM decrease and see the helicopter settle. All the pilot needed to do was to lower the collective. The helicopter was already landing due to lack of lift but the pilot continued to try to keep it airborne by raising the collective resulting in the dynamic rollover.

Interesting.  The reduction of Engine RPM Orv mentioned.   Wonder if it was mechanically induced (as in a partial power failure condition), or pilot reduced throttle.   If partial power condition, that could have contributed to the pilots situational awareness, and he may have focused on the power situation and lost track of the aircraft attitude until it was too late.    He may know, We'll probably never know.

But it is a good reminder to maintain situational awareness and practice as much as possible emergency procedures.
