If you are flying a helicopter you need to be very comfortable and proficient in entering an autorotation and flying it all the way down to the flare. Over the past 35+ years I have had to enter and complete to the ground 19 full down autoroatations, all with students in their own helicopters. If I had not been comfortable and proficient in autorotations I would not be alive today. Get the initial training, get recurrent training, and don't fly unless you are confident that should an emergency occur, you will immediately enter and complete an autorotation to get yourself and your passengers safely to the ground.
When I flew Med evac helicopters in the Bell 206 Longrangers the company that I flew for did not provide autoroation training until the pilot had been flying with the company for a year, does that make any sense to you?
