I did this mod last year, also complying with M-24 for checking the integrity of the seal material. I added an additional Viton (FKM) thin O-ring around the backside of the washer and flat surface of the strainer to ensure a completely sealed assembly. It appeared possible for a very minor static fuel drip to develop in the space between the center of the top washer and the flat shoulder of the strainer when doing this mod without an interference fit. I have a few extra ones if anyone would like a pair—send me a message. I don't recall where I ordered them, maybe McMaster-Carr or a specialty O-ring distributor, Viton is one of the most chemically-resistant elastomers for fuels. I haven't had a drip since! Always great to read and learn from people like Orv and Homer!
