Scary Indeed! Anybody considering buying anything other than a certified NEW aircraft should invest in a pre-purchase inspection by an outsider unless they themselves are a highly experienced owner/operator/maintainer of that type aircraft or a certified technician themselves.
Too many critical systems to just give it a once over tire kick. And just taking the sellers word on something is another big mistake!
