Trying to figure out this thing so I can post stuff.
Posted by: Homer Bell - 08-25-2026, 12:45 AM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

Maybe I didn’t have a title ??? It’s hours later and I’ll try again to post something, I see it does say I need a title. Will add that and see if it will then Post it

Tada! I logged out then came back and it went. Now all I have to do is learn how to post pics and stuff.
Oh, and someone explain the subscribe options to me please.

Ok, I have a question for the group. Have a customer trying to put Saturn packs on his 90 to replace the Electromotive packs it had. Not getting any spark even though it appears to be wired right, from where I sit. I can remember what voltage is coming off the crank sensors. If we hook up a digital meter to the sensor leads and crank it over, what should we see? Al Yard could tell us I’m sure, I’ll have to try and get hold of him.

  Autos with the grandson
Posted by: Homer Bell - 08-24-2026, 08:30 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

I have no idea where this post will go, it’s the only place I can find a place where it says I can start a post.
Shot 13 autos with the red headed grandson over the weekend . We’re using the composite blades I’ve been running for last few years. We’re playing with negative pitch settings, rotor speeds in the steady state, flare height, and airspeeds to name a few things we are testing. Started some at 400 ft. all the way up to 1000 ft, with some doing a left turn after chopping power. He’s becoming very comfortable with the entry and then making changes during the steady state to get a good end result. I’d post some video here , but I have no idea how to do that here. He showed me how to do that on FB, but we never got around to that here. As I said this is the only place I can find to even start a thread, let alone post a video!
And what the hell is all this subscribe stuff???

Patience wearing very thin. Tried to post more stuff to discussion. No good. Quitting for now Wasted too much time already.

  Cascading catagories in threads
Posted by: Lyle Swallows - 08-22-2026, 05:33 PM - Forum: Feature Requests/Suggestions - Replies (2)

Hey Jared,

one suggestion i'd love to see implemented is adding in Cascading Categories to threads when viewed.

other forums utilize this and it works great as a navigation tool for backing up a catagory, or finding that same thread again without using a search tool.

for example.

Rotorway general>Maintenance and modifications>xxxxthreadtitlexxxx

and you can click on the rotorway general link to bring you back to rotorway general related category's.
this thread is starting to grow and having more navigational tools could help those like homer from getting lost.

  The Digital Rotortach
Posted by: Jon Davis - 08-20-2026, 05:31 PM - Forum: Digilin LEDtechnics - Replies (5)

Hi everyone,

I am the designer and manufacturer of the digital rotortach that has been used in Rotorway helicopters since late 1999,  which replaced the original Westach analog units, and became standard equipment supplied in RW kits for very many years.

I was one of the original Rotorway owner/builders in Australia and purchased and built an Exec 90 in 1994, which is how I got involved in the new rotortach in the first place. Conveniently  I just happened to also own an electronic design and manufacturing company!

I sold the company and moved to the UK in 2021 but retained the rotortach business, where I continue to manufacture them, not just to suit Rotorway, but just about every experimental class helicopter.  Aside from being the approved supplier to RW for many years they continue to be the standard factory supplied rotortachs for Cicare and Safari, and are used extensively by the Helicycle community.

Since the original digital rotortach some twenty six years ago,  I have continued to update and refine the design as new microcontroller and electronic component technology has advanced.

The Rotorway version with the round style front is an exact  drop-in replacement for the old Westach analog units – same mounting and identical pin out and electrical connections (with the addition of a sounder horn on Pin 1). However we also offer them in the standard square aircraft style case.

Whilst every rotortach is assembled to order because of the large number of different versions we offer,  delivery time is still typically only 7 working days.

There is a pretty interesting background story to how the digital rotortach originally came about in the first place.   Also many of you technical guys I am sure will be interested in some of the rather unusual and very unique aspects of the electronic design which I am happy to share. I will cover these in more detail in further posts.

In the meantime please contact me if you have any questions.

trying to figure out this site and how to use it
Posted by: Homer Bell - 08-20-2026, 08:22 AM - Forum: Forum Rules and Technical Support - Replies (2)

These sites, just like Face Book, are so complex with so many twists and turns the average old guy like me just give up and go away.  I recently finally  got on FB last week and I'm already restricted until November 3rd for some reason . Guess i responded to someone who i shouldn't have.
I put something on about OSH KOSH and it didn't go where it was supposed to and Jared had to fix that, cause i couldn't even find it after i posted !!  It's going to take me a long time to figure out all these buttons and even how to start a new thread. I was so deep in the mud I had to hit the back button 6 times to get back to where it said new thread!!  Everything i hit trying to get here took me off into never never land even further!!
I realize all these bells and whistles are great to have , but , for the new guys they are just obstacles that cause us to quit and go away. Would love to see some of the old guys like Al Yard on here , his expertise in electronics would be invaluable.

My daughter Steph is fighting cancer again, and i'm up here at 03:00 wide awake on this stupid computer . I'm doing what i do best, bitching  about how complex the world is . Never had much patience and getting less of it every day.

And what in blue blazes is this Subscription stuff down here??? i have no idea  which one of those i want. If i was selling something , OF COURSE i'd want to know if someone was trying to reach me. And if you send me a private message , i may nerver look at it. If you want to talk to me, better call me or text me at 937-477-6911 or mail me direct bellairhomer@gmail.com

  Ah, the good ol days
Posted by: Geno Mancini - 08-19-2026, 04:22 PM - Forum: Modifications & Recommendations - Replies (1)

40 years ago I realized the Rotorway engine was under powered.
So I designed and built an aluminum block V6 4.3L chevy driving my custom built planetary transmission.
It had to run backwards, meaning a custom crank and a custom cam shaft.
It made over 300 hp and I had over 50k in the engine alone.
And that was when 50k actually ment something.
There was no internet back then, you gained knowledge by reading and talking to people.
I actually had one of the first IBM floppy disk computers.
It had a huge 10 megabite hard drive with 2 floppy disk drives.
Fast forward 40 years, I now fly an Allison turbine, more reliable with less moving parts.

I've always been a designer/builder as far back as I can remember.
I was at my grandpa's side, as a little boy, helping him with his projects.
Then I built a dune buggy when I was 15 years old and have been building ever since.
I've had quite a few adventures in the past, including dune buggys, dirt bikes, street bikes, snowmobiles, race cars.
I have no desire to do those things anymore.
Once you've built/fly your own helicopter, nothing else compares.

Here's a few pictures of my past.
