i wonder if had he not immediately entered an autorotation could he have elected to keep his forward airspeed to auto into a more suitable location.
i have a friend with a brand new R44 who also owns a construction company, on every new piece of equipment he has he intentionally scratches the paint in a seen location, i think it was the chin on his 44. this is to remove the stigma around scratches dents, minor cosmetic damage.
maintenance and preflight is prudent on helicotpers... cant let our ego or pride in cosmetics get the best of us... instead building your ship to suit your preflights makes it better! (hinged access doors) latches on the seatback panels, the R66 has access panel lights with automatic switches to illuminate when the access panels are open!
